[6pp.]/pp.iv./[2pp.]/pp.280 + [12] leaves of plates (1 folded) + 26 vignette engravings, with light foxing and offsetting. Brown buckram with blind stamp decoration. Smooth spine with gilt title: "Ogborne's County Of Essex". Yellow endpapers. Owner's signature to front endpaper: "Wykeham Chancellor." Title-page with engraved vignette by: " John Ogborne del. et sculp." Dedication to Richard Aldworth, Neville Griffin, Lord Braybrooke, signed: Elizabeth Ogborne. Clear text throughout, just light spotting. VG. ** "Frederic Wykeham Chancellor (1865-1945 - Architect). He was articled to his father, Frederic Chancellor of Chelmsford and London, from 1885 to 1889, remaining as assistant until 1893 when he was taken into partnership. [Ipswich : Cowell 1876] 0. These 20 plates were originally issued loose, contained in a folder. This set are well bound in a 19th century half calf binding. 8.75" x 6.00" x 0.25". Green calf spine and corners over green buckram boards. Spine with five raised bands and original red leather title label. Also, white ink library reference to the base of the spine. Edges rubbed and bumped. Original bookplate to verso of the front board: "James G. J. Penderel Brodhurst Count De Boscobel". Now overlaid with library labels for "London Borough Of Barking". Library stamp to front free-endpaper, and smaller stamp to border of the title -page, and the folding prospectus at the end. All 20 plates present and well bound, prededed by contents and testimonials. A very good copy of this unusual publication.* Issued with folding prospectus "Parish's portfolio of antiquities. No. 1, Colchester, imp. 10mo, 20 plates, in cloth portfolio, gilt. Representing faithfully all the principal antiquities in Colchester, comprising 110 objects .. In anticipation of the Congress of the Royal Archaeological Institute, which will be held at Colchester, on August 1st [1876], the artist has prepared the portfolio of antiquities .." - No more published. ** James George Joseph Penderel-Brodhurst (5 June 1859 – 2 December 1934) was a British journalist and writer, who was editor of the Guardian, an Anglican newspaper, from 1905 to 1922.
